When I first visited the site of the Surat Akshardham Mandir in Kanad, Jahangirpura, I was left speechless. Even though the temple is still under construction, the energy, devotion, and sheer scale of the project gave me goosebumps. The craftsmanship of the carvings, the vision of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, and the excitement of thousands of devotees waiting for the grand inauguration make this temple one of the most anticipated landmarks in Surat.
If you have ever visited Akshardham in Delhi or Gandhinagar, you already know the divine experience that comes with it – the peaceful atmosphere, grand architecture, exhibitions, gardens, and spiritual vibes. 👉 The total area of Surat Akshardham is more than 100 acres. (Approx 135 acres)
⚠️ Update: Dosto, there is some confusion between vigha and acres. In some sources, I found 135 acres, while other sources mention 135 vigha of land.
What we do know is that the complex is being built on a large piece of land in Jahangirpura, and once completed, it will be one of the largest Swaminarayan temples in South Gujarat.
Design & Architecture of Surat Akshardham
The design of Surat Akshardham follows the traditional Hindu temple architecture seen in Delhi and Gandhinagar Akshardham. Here’s what makes it special:

From my personal visits to other BAPS Akshardham temples, I can confirm that accommodation is always thoughtfully arranged for devotees. So yes, rooms will definitely be available in some form.
Also, since Surat Akshardham will become a major landmark, many good hotels and lodges will open up nearby. So whether you prefer staying within the temple campus or in nearby hotels, you don’t need to worry — there will be plenty of comfortable room options available for visitors.

My Personal Experience
In February, when Mahant Swami Maharaj himself came to Surat to review the construction work and bless the upcoming Murti Pratishtha Samaroh, I was fortunate enough to be there in person.
It was truly an unforgettable experience. ✨
Hundreds of devotees had gathered, and the entire atmosphere was filled with devotion, joy, and divine energy. The presence of so many BAPS sadhus, along with the chanting and spiritual vibes, made it feel like a grand festival, even though the mandir is still under construction.
As I walked around, I could see the progress closely — workers chiseling stone, artisans carving intricate designs, massive structures already standing tall. The dedication and efficiency of everyone involved was inspiring. Looking at the pace of work, I personally feel that within 1 to 2 years, this temple will be officially open to the public.
From 4 PM to 9 PM, the entire site was glowing with lights, bhajans, and the excitement of devotees. Honestly, it felt less like a construction site and more like a spiritual celebration.
That day remains one of the most beautiful and divine experiences of my life, and it makes me even more certain that Surat Akshardham will soon be a landmark of devotion for the whole world.
